About Us
Horizon Active started out of the desire to have my own company, then it turned into so much more.
Out of valuing health and fitness, I chose to focus on activewear. As I was researching the fashion industry, I started learning about how it's one of the most polluting industries in the world.
Seeing what that was doing to people working for major garment factories, especially in other countries, and to people living around them, I decided I couldn't be a part of it.
If I was going to be in the fashion industry, I had to do it in a healthy, sustainable way.
After a ton of learning, on sustainability, on fashion design, and especially a ton of research to find "the right factory" in the US, we finally found one, launched our brand, and 4 months later, covid came around. The on-demand factory went down and all the other ones were busy making PPE and were not taking on new clients. If they did, they were crazy expensive, and would question basic things like, "why do you want pockets" or "what do you care if a little old lady sews your clothes, you gotta look at your bottom line"
yeah, it wasn't great.
So I decided to learn how to do it myself. I learned how to sew, and a year later Horizon Active was relaunched.
Today we have a small but mighty women team who value sustainability, personal health, and really working to deliver high quality clothes for our customers.
We focus on making practical, comfortable and beautiful clothes that keep you active and comfortable. We test things A LOT, on different body types, during different activities, from gym workouts, yoga, hiking, just walking in them all day, martial arts, climbing, even spring skiing and horseback riding!
For this reason we created different fits, short, regular, tall, as well as specifically making the patterns of all our clothes ourselves and making sure our clothes never dig in uncomfortably and are never see-through.
We only choose the highest quality recycled fabrics.
You probably know of how much plastic and disposed clothes are out in our oceans and landfills, even the ones people donate to charity.
For this reason we avoid waste during our manufacturing processes and created programs like Horizon Active Reuse and Thrift. You can buy our brand's gently used clothing and you can mail us activewear you don't wear anymore in exchange for a discount code on our full website.
In other words, we're a closed cycle company and our thrift store is meant to grow and clean up after other brands who aren't.
We also offer repairs or swaps to help increase our products' life cycle.
Finally, we produce for other brands as well. We mainly focus on other new and smaller brands. Our goal is to apply our sustainable practices to them and increase our impact. We work with our clients to lower the barrier to entry into the industry, realize their vision and eliminate their waste too.
My name is Sara Manzoni, I'm the founder of Horizon Active.
A little bit about me, I went to college at Plymouth State University, New Hampshire. (I couldn't be more grateful about that) and I'm a fitness trainer, I love helping people (I'll confess, especially women) develop new skills and tap into how powerful they are.
